Work starts on Final Phase of Hall Extension Project

Builders have now started work on the final phase of the Hall’s ambitious extension and improvement scheme. This third phase follows two earlier stages which were completed, respectively, in 2020 and in 2024. The latest alterations will link together the two new parts, forming a large, welcoming foyer and front entrance. In addition, the men’s and disabled person’s toilets will be upgraded and a drinks bar/reception desk built in the new space. We expect the builders to be finished by the end of March 2027.

Prior to the main work starting, specialist contractors have refurbished and repainted the roof to the Main Hall and our electrical contractors have installed 20kW solar panels on it, connected to batteries installed in the plant room. This system will help to reduce the cost of the energy used to operate the Hall and will contribute to the UK’s drive to lower carbon emissions in general.

As far as it is possible to do, the Hall Committee is determined to keep the hall running as usual for our hirers and those who use the building while it is being altered. Since noone will be able to enter via the Hall’s front entrance and foyer we have made alternative arrangements for access to the Main Hall, Small Hall and Churchouse Room. Regular hirers have been informed. The new arrangements will be explained to new hirers when they first come to the building.
